Sometime late last year, the song ‘I look to you’ entered my phone playlist. I don’t quite recall how I got it but it read R Kelly as the author and it ended with

‘We love you Whitney, Rest in Peace’‘Miracle’ has always been a favourite song of mine and even though I knew it was a Whitney song, I never paid much mind to the ‘owner’.Both songs I would remember once in a while and play them on repeat, again not thinking of Whitney. The only thing I knew of Whitney was that she passed from drug overdose.Then early this week, as I sang along to my ‘I look to you’ in the kitchen, it dawned on me that this song is actually a Whitney song ooo. I think the buzz too on Bobbi Kristina’s death and of course Whitney by extension kinda made me link the songs to her so I get on YouTube to watch the video and let’s just say I was awake till 4.30am overdosing on Whitney’s songs and live performances, stories and interviews. I really came late to the party. In one night, I became a FAN and my goodness, what a woman, what a VOICE, what a life and what an end!!!

See ehn, if there is a spirit of music, she had it., straight from heaven. Like she says her mama said to her when she was young and singing at her mom’s concert and the audience went crazy, ‘God is finding you and this is what you are supposed to do…’

I watched soooooo many live performances of her ‘Miracle’ with Mariah and you KNOW that Whitney really had a treasure. Her singing wasn’t ordinary. It was divine. You felt the goosebumps. It touched your spirit. I almost didn’t see Mariah, all I saw was Whitney, owning the song and inviting us to partake of a small part of her ownership, or what Barbara Walters called ‘the public unveiling of her soul’. Her talent is ‘sooo big there is no room left for anything else on the stage other than her voice…’

Then I watched the full interview with her and Mariah on Oprah and realised that she sure had an interesting lineage-

Her mama is Cissy Houston, Grammy award winning soul and gospel singer

Her godmama is THE Aretha Franklin

Her cousin is Dionne Warwick, award winning American singer

Just look at that… surrounded by a family of Singers

Plus she started singing in the church too so she spoke a lot about God, the gift he had given her, and the church and prayer and her life. Very proudly. Like a PROUD daughter of the most high…My best quote from that interview is easily

‘There is comfort in prayer’

You could just see that she was a SINGER. She was one blessed woman. She was also full of life, she talked and teased and laughed a whole lot, from deep down her belly. oh Whitney could LAUGH.She also spoke of her hubby and mentioned how the marriage had lasted 7years at the time even though people said it wouldn’t last less than a month and how she was deliriously happy and loved him to death bla bla bla…

But she really loved Bobby though. And it looks like the marriage was alright in the first few yearsI wish he loved her enough to really groom her like  gardener not a hunter. LOVED her in the true sense of the word. Sigh

In all, the interview was just really sweet. You could see the essence of Whitney.

Then suddenly, devil entered… She had it all, the fame only a few will ever achieve, the hits, the VOICE, houses, cars, trips in PJs, and sooo much money, and then life started spiralling downwards a couple of years after she got married. I don’t even know what to say but the entire drug gists started and Whitney changed sooo much. Then she did that Diane Sawyer’s very controversial 2002 interview and I almost couldn’t believe how different, how oh-so-different Whitney was, looked and sadly, sounded. I could have sworn alien forces took her and dropped this ‘creature’ for us. I couldn’t watch it to the end. Her answers were too incoherent. I couldn’t bear to see Whitney like that.

Since you can’t slap somebody from the screen, I stopped where Bobby Brown entered the interview after peeping from the cornerand was blabbing nonsense and rubbish. I was too pissed, sorry.

Of course, anyone who saw that ‘view knew something terrible had gone terribly wrong with Whitney. I could have sworn for whoever introduced drugs to the world. Then she disappeared from the scene literally but her gists kept going. And then she reappeared, divorced thankfully, first with the album I LOOK TO YOU and then did this EXPLOSIVE interview with Oprah where she bared it ALL, the drugs, her tumultuous marriage, EVERYTHING. She looked and sounded way better but not like our original Whitney.Like I said Oprah is GOOD abeg. Nobody even comes close. She and Whitney connected like kindred spirits and she really drew the words outta Whitney

I love her answer when Oprah asked her why she didn’t treasure that treasure…

‘…I knew when I was a teenager singing for God, but when I became Whitney n my life became this…who I married…etc, it changed…the media all up in my business… It was all too much for what me, I wanted OUT… and marrying Bobby was a way to be OUT because he let me be ME…we were crazy in love…’

I am taking the ‘CRAZY’ literally.

She actually said HE WAS MY DRUG!!! Ugh…The stories continued- drugs, rehab, drugs, etc.

Next thing, she is found dead in a bathtub, from drug overdose, hours before a pre-Grammy performance.

I will NEVER know why Whitney shunned everyone and married the ‘Bad boy’ Bobby, who had three kids already from two other relationships. Her mom and the WORLD were against it but she did marry, and then stayed in the marriage, through physical mental and emotional abuse, infidelity, and drugs, just to prove the world wrong. Goodness!!! I wonder how her mama feels now. God please comfort her.

I read the interview by her former bodyguard, a real life recipient of an ‘I will always love you’ note even before the song came out, and the inspiration behind her movie THE BODY GUARD. If that interview is all true, and i think it is, then hmmmm, it is well ooo

I have had it on repeat all day and made sure to transfer to all my 4 devices so that no matter what, I can get to play it in the labour room. Infact I listened and sang along as I took my daily walk and didn’t know when I waka-d for over an hour. Na so spirit catch me.

Ok back to why we are here…
Friday into Saturday, I had a real terrible night. You see, there was neither light, gen or inverter and the night was HOT. My rechargeable fan died at 1am and I got up soaked. Took a shower and was just generally awake. Trust the devil to start putting all sorts of thoughts in your head. I began to really loath not being in Abuja but Lagos and God just reminded me of how well I had been enjoying Lagos ooo that I almost lost track of the fact that this gidi is a temp something ooo and I should be grateful for the short opp.

So, basically I’ve had it more good than not-so-good here (and that’s just cos of light which just started) but in the middle of it all, Genesis 11:31ff dropped in my spirit.

31 And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there. 32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.

Hmmmmmm
So Bro Terah takes his entire family and tells them ‘we going to Canaan’ only to get to Haran, dwell there and then die there…
I dunno why Terah stopped at Haran but I certainly know what was NOT where he was going to. Haran was NOT the promised land. Canaan was. Yet Haran’s ‘stop-over’ became an end for him.

Haran for me just represents giving up before you get that desired testimony maybe cos of convenience or challenges.

There was a SHORT period I recall getting so comfy in Lagos that I ALMOST lost track of the fact that I am supposed to be actively in NOW faith for OUR Abuja move. In my mind, I just felt abeg that prayer can ‘chill small’ lemme enjoy gidi wella all over again- great friends, great places to visit, family, amazing church, sound Word, and stuffs.
Ah!!! The complacency of Haran. But it was very short lived thankfully.
I quickly advised myself biko and got back into very actively believing for that miracle move for hubs to Abuja and our 8JN house I blogged about here http://eziaha.com/2014/09/10/how-to-believe-god-for-a-house/ (Yup I’m still believing and will testify here) while thanking God for the opportunity to give birth here where I have a solid support system.

You see sweetie, what has God told you? What have you seen in the spirit? What are you believing for? What scriptures are you standing on???
Keep confessing it hun. Until that which your spiritual eyes have seen, your physical hands are holding, don’t stop!!! Yes open your own mouth and CONFESS!!!

Refuse to settle in/for ‘Haran’. ‘Canaan’ is a far better place hun so keep it moving.
My confessions ehn, I don’t joke ooo. I encourage you to not joke too. This devil is a bastard.

And don’t worry about the physical things around us that point to the contrary.

He was my classmate. President of my department while I was Social director.
Kai it hit me bad. I almost still don’t believe it. Hadn’t seen him since we graduated and he was still hailing me at our convocation which I didn’t make. 

Shame!!! Shame on death!!!
From the moment we realised how bad it was, about 2weeks or so before he passed, we rallied round to see what we could do financially and we kept praying.
We lost him last Saturday 7th at about 6pm ish. He was buried Wednesday 11th of February. Dude was to plan a reunion for our set too.
Idowu, I believe you are getting the rest that has eluded you all the while you battled to beat this stupid Hepatitis B.
Thanks to everyone who gave from my blog. Thanks so much. Ironically it was just friday I hollered at everyone to be sure they didn’t forget and they all said they had given only for him to pass the next day. I recall he was grateful for all the financial assistance only he gave me updates on his health and tests and stuff. Sadly, he passed.

Grammy award winner, Tasha Cobbs may not be very popular YET in 9ja but her ‘Break every chain’ song is one I sing EVERY DAY.
That simple short song for me is beyond a song. Tz a prophecy. Tz a hammer/gun/grenade in my mouth for the devil.

DCC Lagos Choir (The Rock Image) has got the best rendition of the song ever especially when Jacqueline leads. I always pray it is led by her every time Communion is served. I LOVE the song to fine pieces. Smithereens.

Live in Abuja!!!

So imagine when I heard that the owner of the song was coming to Nigeria, not just to Abuja and to COZA just at my backyard, on an evening when I didn’t have any church commitments at my own church. Omo, wild horses, tornadoes, bomb blasts and hurricanes COMBINED couldn’t have stopped me from making it there Tuesday April 15,2014 .
But on getting there, I knew God took me to COZA for something else.

So sometime in the course of the service. they aired this short video of the crucifixion of Jesus. Now I’m a blood wimp… I don’t see or watch anything bloody. For some reason, I had the liver for this though I covered face at different points. It was BLOODY. It was HEART WRENCHING. You could hear a pin drop in church that evening. I have NEVER seen a human so tortured before. That a man would go through all of this to save the world!!! And the Holy Spirit kept dropping such words in my heart

‘I did this for you. I went through ALL of this for you. You can not afford to settle for anything but the BEST in this life… You can’t afford a mediocre or an average life darling…That is the least you can do to show me your appreciation. I DID NOT die for ANYTHING less than the BEST for you to enjoy in life!!! ‘

Dear absolutely FABULOUS Reader of mine, if you ever settle for anything less than the best, you are of all men most UNGRATEFUL and ignorant.

If you settle for a mediocre life, you just SPAT in his face and threw His priceless gift of LOVE back at Him.

Remember I am saying SETTLE. Settle implies an END. You may NOT be enjoying the BEST now but never ever settle there. Understand that you may not be where you can exactly call BEST now but also KNOW that you will NOT be there forever.

That pain and torture I saw was INTENSE. And I don’t even think they acted out what He really went through.
The least you can do in appreciation is to BE and LIVE YOUR BEST.

Don’t let the devil ever ever lie to you. God wants you to have the BEST OF EVERYTHING!!!

Anything less is to make light of that torture he went through. Anything less makes you a most ungrateful creature.

Do you know how I have dreamt to be in her concert before? Just to hear her sing in tongues LIVE. OMG!!! So my girl Ru who will also be singing there says at rehearsals, people were slain in the spirit. Rehearsals ooo.

No surprises sha. Just playing ‘The presence of the Lord’ during my Quiet time changes the atmosphere. That woman drips anointing. And I hear she is singing an IGBO song too. Can Friday the 18th come already. I always wondered why her songs had sooo much power, praying in the spirit and prophesies in between. I now heard she records LIVE in concert and NOT studio. Abeg difference dey!!! Choi!!! She is my Woman Crush DAILY ooo. Move over #WCW hehehe. Infact as I type, I am watching the last concert she had in SA where she recorded the SHOUT IT LOUD album.

That day the spirit of worship jumped into me. Cos I am very sanguine, I can be jumpy jumpy so Praise? I’m gooooooood. But worship? I struggle. So I went with that desire. To grow my Worship life. After that day with Nath, hmmm now E’ can worship forevuuur. Complete with tears and soul totally in sync with God all alone in my room sef. Tz like the most romantic thing. Just worshipping my Sugar Daddy. Oh!!!

Now I’m looking to take it to the next level. Most times, raising my hands in worship is hard. It just seems heavy so I go up and down intermittently. I raise and it goes down in like 5/10secs. Hmm. With this Sinach concert, that’s my desire ooo. To truly be able to lift my hands for longer periods and just worship my Sugar Daddy. And Sinach is just anointed. I can’t wait to just worship God with other believers and Sinach singing, loving on my Sugar Daddy on the day that symbolizes the greatest act of LOVE ever. If people dey fall for over night rehearsal, wetin the real day go be like abeg? Anything short of the trumpet blowing, E’ will be there LIVE. To take over this Abuja for God, I need to EAT plenty abeg. Mehn, if you dey Abuja, Good Friday na public holiday ooo. Come!!!

First is to graduate,i mean i cant wait. Not just graduate but be outstanding.

A better and more intimate relationship with God,i cannot over emphasis this.

I am a Studio Engineer and a Music Producer, a keyboardist and a singer. I come from Abia State. Nigeria west Africa, Africa.
I’ll actually like to thank you the fab Lady E for making this opportunity available for me and others as well to testify and also share our dreams.
I am really addicted to this blog, no joking. I make sure to visit every week… Used to be daily till studio work and stuff increased…

One of the remarkable things that happened to me in 2013 or late 2012 was getting in touch with ya blog. It really shaped my life in a positive way. I remembered bookmarking ya blog address in my friends phones. I don’t know if you could remember times without number I sent you messages on ya Facebook telling you of the impacts you’ve made in me. I remember one of
ya blogs that made me wept through the night #skillsoverswag#[swags alone would pay no bills]. Like seriously that’s still one of my favourite. One of the things that gladdens my heart is the way you start most times, you tend to start in one kind funny way and then “boom” you drop the message undiluted.

Dude would read and send me feedback that were very insightful… Made me realize I was making a difference cos he truly took steps to better himself as he read… Thank you for all that darling,.. ***I am actually screaming this AMEN… This is so huge, I practically have goosebumps… The music ministry is one that is indeed a high calling to me. I love seeing real music ministers do their thing. Hopefully, one day, I will hear you live…***

2. ××My relationship with God××. That’s very important to me, I don’t wanna slack this year like I did last year, my prayer is that He draw me closer to Himself. And My relationship with people, my dream is that I become a blessing to people around me, a source of inspiration, A motivator like you ma’mah.

*Loool. This ma’mah he calls me makes me laugh… Amen to that. We have to keep inspiring people ooo… Inspiring them to Christ and greatness***

3. ××My house××. Abeg  its not too early if I have my own house this year. And its not too early if ride my first car this year hahahah.

4. Blessings will chase me around. In fact no need of calling it a dream cos I’ve got the assurance within me.

These are big dreams o. But then if it’s not bigger than you, its not a real dream.

OK, so its 2.31am and I can’t sleep then #31voices comes to my mind.

I’ll be a year older today (31st) so my plans are rolling through my mind for this year.

you see, I hit the ground running this year with the Word God spoke over our house DCC (yeah we roll like that). I have to….Abi do u think I am content with my testimonies from last year? I won’t carry last neither would I remain where I was last year. I am going to MOVE FORWARD. Besides God blew me away last year and I am so itchy for our relationship this year because He is soooo going to love me intensely this year and you can’t love someone and not reveal yourself to that someone.
so this year, I plan to fall in love all over again with Jesus. Making a conscious effort this time. Talk to Him less and listen to Him more. I plan to read and apply my life’s manual more.

I am going to give everything I have and am to support and build my husbands ministry; my ministry as well. this year we will have 2 music concerts. 1 by MK and 1 by the preserved generation (this is me building up my ministry).

*when Ebele says EVERYTHING she means EVERYTHING… Preserved generation btw is DCC’s children church…*

I will blow my husbands mind away with the kind of peace, joy and love he will find in our home. watch out for his next album y’all….because he WILL hear GOD.

I have always wanted to start something for children so last year when my daughter was having breakfast and she said “she wants water” my husband caught a Word and decided to start something to care for the girl child. it will become a reality this year. like I said I have hit the ground running this year. Fearlessly too. When God says something or gives an instruction, if you do not  benefit from it, that’s completely your fault so no slacking. I have learnt that a lot of destinies are tied to simple instructions if you can just obey them.

This is also that year that I get more education especially since I will do a lot of work with children. I have to live ready.

This year I will consciously spend time fellowshipping with the 3 musketeers. Long overdue. God bless you darlings.

Hmmmmmm…this is also that year where I will live healthy. I will lose all the fat, hit and maintain my target weight. I have the time to do it in Jesus name. (someone please hold me accountable).

Viva Naija Gospel Artists!!!

So I was involved in this twitter convo with my dearest mainest twitter fam… Amazing Christian ladies (y’all know yourselves). I love our real convos even when we are all not on the same page on a certain issue still….

So there was a convo about a certain Gospel music group and some were of the opinion that their music had ‘changed’ and somehow they had started compromising in their music ministry. I disagreed. The convo then moved to how same in the case for most ‘Christian’ or ‘Gospel’ music/musicians. Many had compromised. There are hardly any ‘reals’ out there again…
Yup. I agree. Some had compromised. Many were getting ‘watery’ etc. But see eh, I daresay there are still some true to the race…

I am preserving for myself 7000 souls: the knees that haven’t bowed to the god baal, the mouths that haven’t kissed his image…
Maybe we are looking in the wrong places. Maybe we are looking to the more popular ones. Maybe… Just maybe.
There is a generation of godly gospel Artists rising up today especially in Nigeria. They are not exactly VERY popular yet but they are NOT impossible to find.
I have been known to go to lengths to get gospel CDs that I know would bless me. Once I hear, I scout till I get.
I have NEVER come to a point where I have been short of great Singers who are true Praise and Worshippers indeed whose music ministries have blessed me immensely.
And I do mean immensely. I have them in full supply. Sometimes I even feel like ‘Stop releasing now. I never finish the ones wey you release before…’
Like I said, they are NOT world-famous yet and the sound may not be as great as Kirk’s and Donnie’s but they sure know what they are doing…
I will share their names and then for some, I’ll mention my fave songs of theirs and some random other stuff.

Sinach: Ah. Every song in every single album of Sinach is an inspiration. I dunno how she does it but girlfriend gets my top position anytime. Such a blessing to this generation. God bless her abeg. She is of Christ embassy stock so I am not surprised at the excellence and grace in her songs.

And good thing is she usually has at least 10songs in each album. All totally amazing. She doesn’t just sing, she ministers, she exhorts, she scabashes… She is a TEN.

Another thing I do is once my choir sings a song I love, I ask a chorister to send to me or I google and download it myself.
Or whenever I am in the market esp Lagos Island, there is a Christian shop that sells movies and cds and I ask for latest albums or musicians that I don’t have yet.
I spy people on bb too. If you are listening to a song that I don’t have from a Naija artist I know, I start harassing you to send it.
I also go to the church where the Artist worships and buy if possible or ask someone to get for me.
And how much are they? Some 200, some 500 max 1000. Why wouldn’t I buy please…?
Good thing is some of the songs are also online for you to buy or download free. You have no excuse. The same way we order from Konga, we can order their messages too. No length is too far to go to nourish your spirit.
Nothing beats hearing praise and worship to my Sugar daddy than in local language.
Chris Morgan’s ‘I’m free’ sends me to another level when he starts singing in his Idoma language.
And I know there are many more too who may not be popular but good.
Ah!!! Please we know how to run things in Naija on a praise and worship level abeg…

If we make serious effort, I promise we will see that we have PLENTY musicians who have ‘not bowed to Baal…’

And to end this, I would also say that the callings and gifts of God are without repentance.
There are really NO perfect gospel musicians. Ditto Pastors, Reverends, Bishops etc. I just like to stress the fact that no humans are perfect. So even where they err, since God has bestowed upon them the gift, it is still within them to churn out lovely living songs because it is all about God and not them and He knows how to keep His glory to Himself alone.
And where they choose not to use what is within them, my list above (and countless more) dey. Enjoy them…
I must also add here that sometimes we make the mistake to think that once a song has ‘groove’ the artist is now carnal. At all… Or if the Singer is pretty and dresses well. Lol. Gospel songs are allowed to be groovy too. They are allowed to look good too. If not, we would be tempted to listen to other danceable but spiritually empty songs like Skelewu. Kukere, limpopo and co when we are jogging or at the gym. But thank God for songs like Tim’s Agidigba, Sinach’s I know who I am, MK’s Na the way wey, Mayowa’s Polongo, Eben’s All the way, and the praise series from the churches, we can be exercising our bodies and our Spirits at the same time.

To end these randomisity- THREE ARTISTS I AM mega feeling atm have to be Chris Delvan, Joe Praiz and Chris Morgan. First time I heard their songs, walahi I didn’t know they were Nigerians. Please nobody can tell me we don’t have gospel artistes here ooo. Just look closely. I have been downloading any song that has their ame on it like cray. I have this I AM FREE song by Chris Morgan. What I love most about it is the language he speaks at the end. That was even what made me know he was Nigerian. I dunno what he is saying but it sure sounds good. So when I get into the I am Free Mode, I let it play on repeat. I just know it sounds like something TuFace says too in his songs. Listen to Baby Jowo by Victor Olaiya and 2face. I did a post on it here. There is this funny line Tu has (also in Nfana Ibaga) and what Morgan says sounds like the same language. So today I contemplated going on Facebook and Twitter to ask if they were from the same place. In the meantime tho, I got a break from the students and was chatting with my High School Sweetheart Ebere and sending her songs while playing and downloading more and listening too using my headphones. At some point, I remove the headphones while I AM FREE playeth. Smart Holy Ghost move I tell you. The security detail attached to my office (who btw takes all the office pictures I have lol ) suddenly starts humming it. Huh!!! I am like WHAT!!! You know it? She says Yes, he is from MY PLACE!!! I ask where and she goes IDOMA!!! Dang!!! I was spot on right cos Tu is Idoma too. Instantly I ask her to come and gimme the lyrics and meaning. So I woke up on Friday morning last week and the first song that dropped in my head as I wanted to worship was

‘SEE GOBE’ is one of the most popular songs today and it was actually sang by Davido…

Actually, I don’t know the full lyrics hence the spacing but I know ‘See gobe…’ was playing so much in my head and I didn’t care for it. Now why was that?

Back up a bit…

In the past 2 weeks or so, I had been listening to some of my Naija brothers a lot because I had been listening to the radio a lot and had attended one or two events where they freely played these songs. I usually listen to radio selectively logging off when the songs are not feeding my spirit man. But for some reason, I just had the radio playing through all kinds of songs so I got familiar with all the Eminado, Personally, Gobe, Kukere, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before someone starts calling me holier than thou oh, I didn’t say that those who listen to them are on a one-way first class ticket to hell. Mba ooo. I am just very careful the lyrics and spirit behind songs especially by my Nigerian musicians. Just that their beats eh… kai!!! You won’t know when you start nodding your head. I  actually LOVE P’Square’s ‘Beautiful Onyinye‘ especially because of all the Igbo they interject into a love song… Amazing!!!

That said, I think Flavour’s Ada Ada is like the absolute BEST song out of any Igbo guy and should be played at every wedding ever especially the traditional ones…

But, I digress…

The moment that episode with ‘See Gobe’ happened during my quiet time, I knew I had crossed the line.

I didn’t stop listening to the radio, but I started removing my earpiece every time a song I didn’t think made much sense came on the air. Then I consciously started OVER listening to more and more gospel songs…

In this our walk with God eh, our hearts can’t be left empty. It is NOT enough to leave our hearts empty by NOT listening to some stuff. If you don’t fill it consciously with good and godly stuff, something will fill it unconsciously. The interesting things is that we can ‘catch’ ungodliness even without knowing or planning to. It is very infectious. But we have to CONSCIOUSLY will to be infected by good/holiness by making an effort to DO what we must do and make right choices.

Should we slack, I trust the devil to work overtime…
